Mbete Cup 2023: A tiny piece of Zambian flavour in Denmark

Saturday the 5th of August, we did it again. For the fifth year in a row, we are left with huge portions of gratitude after bringing together football players, spectators, referees, and all sorts of good people to raise money for our work in Mbete. Respect!

Football comes in all shapes and sizes.

In Zambia, words such as chimpombwa (a homemade plastic ball), Chipolopolo (the National Team), and Bola na Lesa (football with God) would most often be linked to the beautiful game.

Honestly, not many of the 130 participants in Bispebjerg, Copenhagen, had their minds fixed on any of that. Instead, they were busy tackling, dribbling, and chasing passes from their team mates. While doing so, they raised money for Mbete Youth Football Project - probably something around 25.000-30.000 Zambian Kwatcha.

This brings along one main question: What will the money be used for?

The reply to this question is pretty straight-forward: Financial independency! We are soon to buy a motorbike. This motorbike will function as a motorbike taxi thereby generating money straight to our project, thus making us less dependent on external aid. This is what we believe in.

And oh, before I forget: Mbete Cup 2023 had the pleasure of serving Zambian food! It was wonderful (and tasty) to eat n’shima and Zambian dishes in the hearth of Denmark. Many thanks to Mwansa and her colleagues! Let me add some pictures from the day:
