A historic day for women’s football

Saturday the 10th of December, our women’s team beat Queens Rangers 2-0. The match was the first ever FAZ Women’s football game in Mpulungu District.

Yesterday, the tireless effort of our young women - who has invested heavily in the training sessions and friendly games over the last few months - finally paid off. The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has divided Mpulungu’s women’s teams into zones, and our game versus Queens Rangers marked the opening off The FAZ Women’s League Zone B.

Wimula Chifunda made it 1-0 in the first half, and after the break Mable Nanyangwe doubled over lead to secure us a perfect start to the new season with a 2-0 win.

FAZ has recruited professional referees to oversee the games and has required all teams to present ID cards of the registered players. Also, the football association has introduced certain criteria that the stadiums must comply with. In addition to this, it has been encouraged that all players should be wearing football boots during the matches.

Sadly, our football ground in Mbete doesn’t fulfill the requirements of FAZ, and neither can we at this moment buy football boots for all our players. We are therefore kindly asking potential donors in our network to support our women’s team as they proceed in the prestigious tournament.
